Government money owed to me Canada

Government benefits you may be missing

Independent, free guide. Not affiliated with BC Unclaimed or government.

This page is about money you may have missed: unpaid benefits and old uncashed cheques. If you just want the status of this year's tax refund, that's in CRA My Account.

Free to search. You can do it yourself. Official programs don't charge to search, and most charge nothing to claim (a few, like Alberta, may charge an administration fee). You don't need to pay a "finder". GuidePointBC links you to the official sites and doesn't keep your details.

Already-issued money you never cashed

Refunds, GST/HST credits and benefit payments may have been issued as cheques you never cashed. See CRA uncashed cheques.

Benefits you may not have applied for

CPP, OAS and EI unpaid benefits, including the CPP death benefit, aren't in any public list. Check through Service Canada and your My Service Canada Account.

Most federal credits are calculated from your tax return. If you've skipped filing, you may also be missing credits. File through CRA My Account or with a tax preparer.

Federal pension from a former employer? From January 1, 2027, unclaimed balances from terminated federally regulated plans can move to the Bank of Canada.
